Sending District Data

This data was requested as a result of a prior post and shows the number of students at MVRCS from the different sending districts (home towns). We came across it and thought it was interesting. This is as of April 2010 and per the DESE (http://www.doe.mass.edu/charter/enrollment/FY11_dist.xls). We are double checking the total number of students against other reports filed. More on that later.

Why are there students from other towns besides the 5 surrounding towns? I thought you had to live within the 5 towns to enroll yet there are kids from Danvers, Lynn, Chelsea etc. Did they change the town requirement?

Once your accepted they do not kick you out if you move

AND, some people use relatives addresses to get in and then change their address to their actual address.

Did They REALLY Say THAT? Quotes That Made Us Laugh!

From the Boston Globe Article with the top 50 Salaries (the majority of which were 'Konnected' individuals) -
"Over the years, the board of trustees has made significant adjustments to its salary structure in order to remain competitive, said Kinnon, a founding member of the school. As a result, the charter school has been able to attract and retain first-rate teachers, he said." Really??? Should we talk about the high turnover rate, low certification rate, excessive recruitment fees, or the incredibly low morale among the teachers? No, shhhhh if we don't say it, it doesn't exist!

“Under state law, [the board of trustees] has three jobs — to remain true to the charter, to ensure the academic success of our students, and to maintain the school’s financial and operational viability,’’ said Kinnon.
The success of all students or just those that are 'Konnected' and/or don't have any diverse learning needs? Aren't 'those' students quietly pushed (or shoved) towards the door?

“The quickest way to be not true to the charter is to not have continuity. Since superintendents come and go, where do you get continuity? You’re able to get that through a long-serving board that has full understanding of the charter. This is what I have told the DOE every year they’ve come in and questioned it.’’ Again, Really? Is overpaying and creating jobs for friends, family members and associates staying true to the charter?
