A reader has provided the following link (thank you!) that many parents will be relieved to hear, neither the school nor any student was involved. The incident took place in the parking lot and was with two individuals who knew of each other.

We have heard that the Malden Observer printed the following in the police log:
Saturday December 18 @11:45am statutory rape of a child, Mystic Valley Charter School, 770 Salem St
We have no other information regarding this incident but one must wonder if was a school event that was going on or did this incident occur on MVRCS grounds? Is this when the event occurred or when it was reported? Was the child a student of MVRCS? Was it an adult and child or 2 teenagers? Does anyone know what was going on at the school on Saturday the week before Christmas?
We don't want to alarm parents unnecessarily but are looking for more information that either justifies parents being alarmed or can ease parents fears. Does anyone have more information on this incident?
If, (and only if, since we don’t know) this incident involved a student(s) or a staff member of Mystic Valley, then I find it reckless and irresponsible of the school’s Board and Administration if they did not send out a notice to all parents. It is their responsibility to ease the fears of the children and their families.
ReplyDeleteI find it disturbing that the police report was removed from Malden Observer’s online issue. I suggest that if anyone knows a police officer in Malden that you ask them if they can either confirm or deny that it involves anyone at the school. That is exactly what I plan on doing. I respect the privacy of people, but if this incident happened with a school child or staff member, parents have a right to know.
From experience with the school, I will tell you that they do not inform parents about something of this nature even if involved an employee and student at the school.
ReplyDeletePeople do not need to know the name of the child. That is private and should not be known. But a general statement is owned to parents to ease their fears. If it involved a teacher, that should be known. Protect the child, do not protect the perpetrator.
ReplyDeleteNeither the school nor any student was involved:

Wow, once again another false statement about the school, lies, lies and more lies. And yet you don't want to close the school. Really! Thank you to anonymous that posted the truth!!
ReplyDeleteI read the newest article. I'm glad to hear that it didn't involve a student or teacher. But the fact that it was in the paper and then disappeared is bad media reporting, or perhaps a cover-up. It left parents hanging. I'm sure the charter school read the report so they still had an obligation to ease the fears of parents. They choose to ignore it and caused rumors to fly, which is typical of their behavior.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the fact that it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the school other than location made the editors realize that it should not have been printed the way it was. I commend them for removing it, although it should not have been printed in the way it was originally.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping us updated - we all know that the school wouldn't have ever told us about it nor did they do anything to clarify the situation. They'd rather parents just worry about it.

ReplyDeleteAnother false statement? Lies, lies, and more lies? Just to clarify here - an incident DID occur in the parking lot of the school AND let's not forget, we didn't print the original police report, the Malden Observer did. All we did was post what information we were given (which was true just not clear) and we REQUESTED updates and/or additional information. It wasn't a false statement nor was it a lie. Luckily it didn't involve the school but who knew until clarification was provided? Take up your issue with this post with the Malden Observer.

ReplyDeleteI stand by you about it not being a false statement or lie. It was in the Malden Observer. You don't owe anyone an explanation. It was in fine print.

Take it up with the Malden Observer or the Malden PD. They are the ones who published the report.
